Neglected San Pablo Creek Getting Restoration

SAN PABLO (AP) - A long-neglected East Bay creek is getting a makeover, thanks to an infusion of state money.

The city of San Pablo received a $1.8 million grant from the state Department of Water Resources last week to clean up Wildcat Creek.

City officials say the money will also be used to remove culverts and add trails that could help bring back visitors to the long-neglected creek.

Wildcat Creek is one of the East Bay's larger watersheds, beginning in the hills east of Berkeley and flowing into San Francisco Bay.

The money comes from Proposition 84, the Safe Drinking Water Act, which raised $130 million for water projects throughout the state.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, Hercules, Oakland and Petaluma also received grants for restoration projects.
