Motorcyclist Remains In Critical Condition After Oakland Crash

OAKLAND (BCN) -- A man remained in critical condition and was on life support Wednesday after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Oakland on Tuesday afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a crash at the intersection of 58th Street and Telegraph Avenue, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Arriving officers found a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle severely damaged at the intersection, and a 2000 Mercedes vehicle on the east sidewalk of Telegraph Avenue.

The motorcyclist, a 36-year-old Oakland man, was unconscious in the roadway. He was taken to Highland Hospital where he was in critical condition as of this afternoon, Thomason said.

Investigators believe the Mercedes, driven by a 79-year-old woman from El Cerrito, was traveling south on Telegraph Avenue and tried to make a left turn onto 58th Street when it collided with the motorcycle, which was headed north on Telegraph.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Oakland Police Department's traffic investigation section at (510) 777-8720.
