OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A 26-year-old Oakland man was fatally shot while sitting in his car Monday evening.

Jeffery Nichols was shot at 7:20 p.m. in the 9500 block of Golf Links Road, spokeswoman Cynthia Perkins said.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and later died from his injuries, Perkins said.

Few details about the shooting were available this morning, she said.

Police were still searching for suspects Tuesday and trying to determine a motive.

Nichols was the city's 28th homicide victim of the year, Perkins said. There were 22 homicides in Oakland at this point last year, she said.
