Man Killed In Pittsburg House Fire

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) - A man who died after being removed from a burning house in Pittsburg on Thursday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 41-year-old John Guidinger.

The fire was reported at 6:14 p.m. Thursday at a three-story house in the 2200 block of Fairbourne Drive, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said.

Arriving firefighters searched the home, and found Guidinger and removed him at around 6:30 p.m.

Medical personnel treated Guidinger at the scene and were able to detect a pulse, but he never regained consciousness and succumbed to his injuries on Friday, Broschard said.

Guidinger's roommate, who was not home at the time of the fire, was displaced and received relocation assistance from the American Red Cross, Broschard said.

The fire started in Guidinger's bedroom, but the cause has not yet been determined, Broschard said.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the home, Broschard said.
