Man Attacks Monterey County Deputies
SALINAS (CBS/BCN) -- Two Monterey County sheriff's deputies suffered minor injuries while bringing an unruly man into jail who had been arrested on suspicion of public intoxication early Friday morning, according to the sheriff's office.
Thomas Calderon, 21, of Salinas, appeared to be unsteady on his feet when he was contacted by authorities at the El Desquite restaurant at 348 San Juan Grade Road.
Calderon tried to run away into the bar but was eventually arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and resisting a peace officer, according to the sheriff's office.
He was transported to county jail and was found to be on felony probation with a condition to not possess or consume alcohol, according to the sheriff's office.
While he was being brought into the jail, Calderon began kicking the patrol car door and window in an attempt to break out the window, and when he was brought into the jail's receiving area, he hit a deputy and kicked another, according to the sheriff's office.
One of the deputies suffered an injury to his forearm while the other suffered a small cut to his hand while trying to control Calderon, who was additionally arrested on suspicion of battery on a peace officer.
