Man Arrested In August Murder Of Oakland Woman

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - Police have arrested a man wanted for the murder of a 20-year-old Alameda woman in Oakland last month.

Oakland Police Department problem-solving officers and members of the department's Gangs/Guns Intelligence Task Force arrested Julius Scott, 26, of Oakland, at 6 p.m. Friday, police said.

Scott is suspected in an Aug. 24 shooting that killed Shanika Latham and wounded her 25-year-old boyfriend, police said.

The pair showed up at Highland Hospital at about 12:40 a.m. that day suffering from gunshot wounds. Latham had been shot multiple times and died before police arrived.

Her boyfriend had been shot once and survived, police said.

Officers determined that the shooting had occurred a short time earlier in the 1900 block of 48th Avenue in Oakland.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Major Crimes Section-Robbery and Assault Unit at (510) 238-7230.
