Gun-Wielding Man Killed by San Ramon Police

Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday police responded to reports of a man waving a gun in a 7-Eleven on San Ramon Valley Boulevard near Crow Canyon Road. The man had apparently ordered a clerk out of the store, and that clerk had gone to a nearby Safeway to call 911.

"This man was walking around in the store and it looked like he was shopping," said James Danos, who, along with two of his friends, were at a nearby McDonalds when they saw what was happening. "After about 20 minutes he came outside and was sitting in the parking lot while the cops kept telling him to put the gun down, saying they would help him. This went on for another 15 minutes before the guy took a drink from the drink in his hand, threw the drink to the ground and raised the gun at the officers, and that's when they shot him."

A spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department tells KCBS the suspect shot to death by police was a white man in his 20s who was driving a stolen car.

Several hours earlier there was a burglary at a knife and gun store in Dublin.

Investigators say the suspect's gun is likely the same gun that was stolen out of the Dublin Knife and Gun Shop at around 11:30 the night before. Police in Dublin say someone rammed a car through a plate glass window at the store, and took a handgun and ammunition.

The district attorney's office, and Police in San Ramon and Dublin are investigating both incidents.
