Schwarzenegger Blasts Measure Suspending Global Warming Law

SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- One of the most hotly debated issues on the November ballot is Proposition 23 which would suspend California's global warming law until the unemployment rate drops to 5.5 percent for a year.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger voiced his opposition to Prop. 23 during a speech Monday in Silicon Valley.

KCBS Mike Colgan Reporting:

Saying they're motivated by pure greed, Gov. Schwarnegger blasted the oil companies, saying the officials are blatantly trying to manipulate people by saying Prop. 23 would  save jobs.

"Those who seek to overturn our common reduction law say that the green tech future is too costly," he said. "But here's what they don't want to tell you-- the cost calculations don't include  the cost of doing business their way, the old way."

Supporters of Prop. 23 say California will still have the strongest clean air laws in the country even if the proposition passes.
