Good Question: What Happens To Items Confiscated By TSA?

(CBS 5) -- If you've brought something to the airport you shouldn't have, you know this feeling. Felicia Davis in San Jose asked this Good Question: What happens to items confiscated by the TSA?

ANSWER: San Francisco International Airport spokesman Mike McCarron said objects confiscated are either thrown away, donated or recycled. McCarron said illegal items have dwindled dramatically since TSA rules went into effect following the 9-11 attacks, but there are still occasional seizures of weapons including firearms. Passengers also have the option of mailing their prohibited items home using a kiosk located near the TSA security gates.
