Good Question: How Does Goodwill Sort Out Donations?
(CBS 5) -- Plenty of people are hitting the thrift stores to save in this tough economy. Mike in San Francisco asked this Good Question: How are clothes, processed and cleaned before they hit the racks at Goodwill?
ANSWER: According to Michael Bongiorni, material donations manager for Goodwill, tons of items come in by truck from 28 donation sites in Northern California. Every item is checked and inspected before it goes out in the Goodwill stores. They don't launder anything, but most of the donations are clean when they arrive. Items that not accepted are recycled.
