Golden State Valkyries beat Phoenix Mercury 84-79 to get first preseason win
The Golden State Valkyries won their first preseason game in franchise history against the Phoenix Mercury 84-79.
Rookie guard Migna Toure led all scorers with 19 off the bench. Kayla Thornton added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Phoenix took a seven-point lead into the half.
Early in the third quarter, the Mercury went up by 15. But the Valkyries stormed back, eventually tying the game at the end of the third quarter.
Toure scored 8 points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer in the final minute to stretch the lead to five points. Julie Vanloo then made four free throws in the final 35 seconds to secure the win.
