Oakland Firefighters Raise Funds For Girl Who Lost Family In Fire
OAKLAND (KCBS) – Oakland firefighters are coming to the aid of a little girl who lost her family in a house fire in December.
An electrical fire tore through the house at 1756 82nd Avenue on December 30th, killing a woman and her three-year-old daughter.
The woman's seven-year-old daughter, Allison Benavides, was rescued by a neighbor, who also died when he went back in to try to save the others.
KCBS' Doug Sovern Reports:
Firefighter Chris Foley, one of those who battled the flames that night, is joining the effort to establish a fund for Allison.
"We are worried about her future. A tragic event like that, she'll never overcome it," he said. "But maybe we can make her life a little bit better. It also serves as a method to heal for those of us that are out here doing this sort of work."
The Oakland Firefighter Random Acts charity, a nonprofit organization, is behind the establishment of the "Allison B. Fund." You can make a donation at their website.
Allison is in foster care and the subject of a custody battle. She may move back to her native El Salvador.
