Full-Length 'Star Wars' Trailer To Play During 'Monday Night Football'; Ticket Sales Begin
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF/AP) — More than just football fans will likely be tuning in to watch halftime on "Monday Night Football" this week.
A new trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will debut during halftime of the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles game, Disney/Lucasfilm announced Sunday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN, which, like San Francisco-based Lucasfilm, is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.
Tickets will also go on sale for the film, opening Dec. 18, after the trailer plays. Tickets will be available online or at the box office of select theaters nationwide.
In the Bay Area, theaters showing a special Star Wars marathon event ending with "The Force Awakens" are
- Regal Hacienda Crossings 20, Dublin
- Redwood Downtown 20, Redwood City
- AMC Metreon 16, San Francisco
- Century 20 Oakridge, San Jose
"The Force Awakens," the seventh film in the franchise, is one of the most anticipated of the year. Even its trailer launches have become events in and of themselves. The second teaser trailer, which debuted in April, has over 64 million views on YouTube to date.
On Sunday, the official poster for "The Force Awakens" was released, stirring some controversy on a missing Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to the design.
