Fire Destroys 2 Homes In Concord

CONCORD (CBS / AP) -- A fast-moving fire that broke out in a Concord home early Saturday ended up destroying the home, and a second home as well.

The fire in the 1700 block of Margo Drive was reported at approximately 2:00 a.m., the fire dispatcher said.

The blaze engulfed the first home in minutes, before spreading to the second home.

About 30 firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to the fire and no injuries were reported.

Fire officials said the blaze got a head start on responders because the fire station close by was recently shut down and a second fire engine had to come from a greater distance.

The station says when Contra Costa County firefighters arrived on scene, a tower of flames and smoke were pouring from the roofs of the two homes.

The two families who lived in the two homes escaped without injury.

The Red Cross was called upon to house two adults living in one of the homes, the fire dispatcher said.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
