Fight Leads To Fatal Shooting At Fairfield School

FAIRFIELD (BCN) -  A man was shot and killed during a fight between two adults and their associates at a Fairfield high school Monday night, according to police.

Two groups of people gathered at the Armijo High School parking lot at 824 Washington St. at approximately 9 p.m. to settle a feud, said Fairfield Police Lt. Darrin Moody.

When the two people began fighting, one of the bystanders pulled a handgun and opened fire, striking the victim several times, said Moody.

The Solano County coroner's office identified the victim as 29-year-old Fairfield resident Jamal Terrell Thornton.

He was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m., coroner's Deputy Adrian Garcia said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The shooting suspect has not been identified.  Other suspects fled before police arrived. The fight was not related to the school or a soccer game there earlier Monday, police said.

Anyone with information related to this crime is asked to contact Fairfield police at (707) 428-7300 or the Solano County Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-STOP.
