Faulkner Named San Jose State's Starting QB
SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- Matt Faulkner will be San Jose State's starting quarterback when the Spartans open the regular season against Heisman Trophy favorite Andrew Luck and seventh-ranked Stanford.
San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre also announced Wednesday that Dasmen Stewart will serve as the backup and Blake Jurich the third-string quarterback. The Spartans begin the season at Stanford on Sept. 3.
Faulkner transferred to San Jose State from Mount San Antonio College after leading his team to a 13-0 record and the California Community College Athletic Association championship in 2009. Last year, he played in 10 games as a reserve for San Jose State, throwing for 206 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
