Driver Runs Over, Kills Man After Argument In Oakland Pill Hill Neighborhood

OAKLAND (KCBS)— Oakland Police are investigating an unusual homicide in the City's Pill Hill neighborhood where they say the murder weapon was a vehicle.

According to police, the incident took place at 29th and Webster streets. Oakland Police Officer J. Moore said they got a call of a person down in the street at about 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday.

A 50-year-old Oakland man was apparently involved in an argument with someone before he got in a car and ran down his victim who died of their injuries. Arriving officers pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The area is the part of the neighborhood that bleeds into Auto Row where a medical building stands across from the scene and a brightly-lit used-car dealership stands adjacent with a Mercedes dealer on the other side.

Police said it was early enough in the evening for the possibility of witnesses and there is high expectation of surveillance video. Authorities are being cautious with the information they're releasing initially until next of kin for the victim is notified.

There is no suspect or vehicle description at this time.
