Days May Be Numbered For Microbeads In California Beauty Products
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) - There is a new push underway to ban microbeads in skin care products sold in California.
A measure banning the tiny plastic particles fell one vote short of passing in the State Legislature earlier this year.
Now, the author of the bill is promising to re-introduce the bill in 2015 and is predicting that it will pass.
Environmental groups say the skin-scrubbing beads end up win waterways where fish ingest them, allowing them into the food chain.
A trade group for personal care products industry says manufacturers are already phasing out the beads, but need more time to come up with alternatives.
