Daily Madden: Remembering 9/11

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - John Madden was in New York City on September 11, 2001. He said the death of Osama Bin Laden has brought some closure to the tragedy.

"With the events of last night, I keep remembering that," Madden told the KCBS morning crew, "That was pretty good news last night. This is the kind of thing everyone will remember where they were."

Madden said he was listening in the car when he heard the news and just kept driving around until the president broke in. He said he was afraid to miss anything.

"I go back to 9/11. I was by myself in the apartment... I didn't know what to do, so I started walking toward the attack point," Madden recalled.

Also over the weekend, the 49ers chose Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick after trading up in the second round of the NFL Draft over the weekend.

Madden said hit thinks Kapernick is "pretty doggone good." He said the he remembered tuning in to the Cal game because he couldn't believe they were playing Nevada. He was impressed by the quarterbacks play.

"He's big and he's strong and makes all the throws, he's fast, he can run," Madden said. "The little that I've seen him, he looks pretty good."

He isn't yet as big as some of the other high-profile quarterbacks, Kaepernick could be one of those late bloomers that has a lot of success in the NFL.
