Corporate Sponsors Crucial to SF's America's Cup Bid
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS) - Bay Area business titans will flex their collective muscles, in an effort to land the America's Cup yachting race. The bid is due in one month, and today big corporations are being asked to open their checkbooks to help make it a successful bid.
"It's not just the Levis and the Gaps, the Wells Fargos of the world headquartered in San Francisco, it's the companies in the East Bay, South Bay, that are worldwide in reach," explained San Francisco Chamber of Commerce vice president of public policy, Jim Lazarus.

"These are blue chip brands from our own backyard and we think we're well positioned to help them strengthen our bid," added Kyri McClellan, Project Manager for the City and County of San Francisco
By analysts' predictions, bringing America's Cup to San Francisco could translate into $1.4 billion in economic stimulus, with 9,000 jobs created for the event.
