Condition Of Injured Mavericks' Surfer Improves
PALO ALTO (CBS 5 / BCN) -- A Southern California surfer who nearly drowned in heavy surf off of Half Moon Bay on Saturday has regained consciousness and was upgraded to stable condition, hospital officials said Tuesday.
Jacob Trette was airlifted to Stanford University Medical Center after he was caught in the surf by a 20-foot wave at Mavericks, the internationally known big wave break on the San Mateo County coast just north of Pillar Point Harbor.
Trette had been in critical condition until Tuesday, when his condition was upgraded to fair but stable, Stanford hospital spokeswoman Liat Kobza said.
Trette's vital signs were stable and within normal limits, Kobza said.
