Body Found Near San Francisco's Fort Mason Identified
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man whose body washed up in the waters near San Francisco's Fort Mason last week has been identified as 64-year-old Mehdi Almopahari, according to the medical examiner's office.
Almopahari, a resident of the Monterey County city of Marina, was found around 4:45 p.m. on March 8 near the Firehouse at Lower Fort Mason, authorities said.
Almopahari had been identified late last week, but the medical examiner's office was not able to reach his family until Friday.
His cause of death is undetermined pending toxicology reports, according to the medical examiner's office.
The National Park Service is handling the investigation into the death because Fort Mason is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, park service spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet said.
