Bay Area Care Packages Headed To US Troops In The Middle East

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Two thousand care packages from the Bay Area are now on their way to American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

Employees of McKesson, which creates toiletries items, put together care packages Thursday as part of "Operation Gratitude".

The troops say hygiene products and stuffed animals are the most in demand items overseas. The toys are given to Afghani and Iraqi children who point out where IEDs and bombs are hidden.

Each package costs about $15 to assemble and ship, but the contents total about $100.
