Cahill's Strong Pitching Leads A's Past White Sox, 8-3

PHOENIX (CBS/AP) -- Trevor Cahill took a shutout into the seventh inning and Ryan Sweeney hit his first homer of the spring, leading the Oakland Athletics to an 8-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

Cahill, in his fifth spring start, gave up four hits and one run. He walked one and struck out three in 6 1-3 innings. His previous longest outing was four innings.

Sweeney hit an opposite-field two-run homer in the bottom of the third off White Sox starter Jake Peavy.

Peavy, in his fourth start following shoulder surgery in July, also had his longest outing, giving up seven hits and three runs in 5 2-3 innings. He walked none and struck out three.
