American Idol Contestants Storm SF Seeking Stardom

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Thousands of people are signing up at San Francisco's AT&T Park to try out for Season 10 of "American Idol."

Tuesday was the first day contestants could register for auditions, and an estimated 7,000 people lined up.

The contestants are from all over the country, but there are some San Francisco Bay area residents among them.

Twenty-year-old Christy Orkes of Millbrae says she has been visualizing her performance in her mind.

Orkes says she doesn't want to get her hopes up too high to avoid being devastated if she's not selected.

American Idol Supervising Producer Patrick Lynn says contestants over the last couple of years are more aware of the process to get selected.
