Driver dies on I-680 in Alamo after detached wheel crosses center divide, smashes into truck
A driver was killed on Interstate 680 in Alamo on Thursday afternoon when a detached wheel smashed into his truck, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. on I-680 south of Stone Valley Road.
Officers said a rear left wheel detached from a blue van traveling north and bounced across the center divide before smashing into a white Toyota Tundra.
The CHP said a man driving the Tundra died at the scene. His identification has not been released.
Several lanes were closed for the investigation.
