SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Cinematic buzz is in the air for actor and first-time director, Michael Rapaport's "Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest", which paints a portrait of one of the most influential and groundbreaking Hip Hop groups of all time, "A Tribe Called Quest".
Michael Rapaport chronicles the group's 2008 reunion tour and gives an all-access interview with many of the group's fans and colleagues alike. Through Rapaport's cinéma vérité style of filmmaking he fosters a conversation with the members of "A Tribe Called Quest", Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White to determine if there is a possibility to mend broken wounds from over the years. Mary J. Blige, Common, De La Soul, Mos Def, Ghostface Killah, Ludacris and Angie Martinez also make contributions to the film.
Davey D had a chance for a quick chat with the first-time director at San Francisco's weekly event P.S.T for the film's Release Party, and talk about his experiences and reflections on "A Tribe Called Quest" and in the same cinematic-style, we find out what notable local Hip Hop artists, MC's and DJ's feel about the group.
