3 Suspects Detained After San Francisco Police Chase

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Three suspects were detained Wednesday evening after leading police on a vehicle pursuit in San Francisco.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the city's Bayview District shortly after 6 p.m., police said.

Police later found a handgun near the location where the shooting was reported, along with casings and a magazine, police Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

As of 8:30 p.m. no shooting victims had been reported, he said.

Responding officers saw a vehicle speed away from the area but lost sight of it when it crossed Third Street.

Officers in a marked patrol car spotted the suspect vehicle a short time later and saw it drive onto Interstate 280, police said.

The vehicle exited the freeway near 25th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue when it hit gridlock on the highway, police said.

The suspects lost control of the vehicle as it exited the highway and it crashed. No one was injured, police said.

The suspects ran away from the vehicle into a storage container business.

Officers detained a suspect who was trapped by barbed wire on top of a storage unit. An officer suffered cuts on his arm while detaining the suspect, police said.

Another suspect was detained near 26th and Indiana streets and the third suspect was found in bushes near the highway on-ramp, police said.
