2 Men Killed In Separate Oakland Shootings

OAKLAND (BCN) -- Two men were killed and two other people were injured in Oakland overnight in three separate shootings, a police spokesman said Sunday.

The first shooting was reported just before 11 p.m. in the 5900 block of East 17th Street, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Officers arrived to find a man lying in the street and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Thomason said.

The victim's identity is not being released until his family is notified of the death, he said.

A second victim was also injured in the shooting and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to police.

Another shooting was reported at 2:12 a.m. in the 9000 block of International Boulevard. Officers arrived and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Thomason said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was in critical condition as of this afternoon, according to Thomason.

Officers spotted a man discarding a firearm near the scene of the shooting and arrested him. He was taken to Highland Hospital for a medical condition, Thomason said.

A third shooting was reported at about 3:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of East 26th Street, he said.

Officers arrived to find a vehicle on the sidewalk with the engine revving loudly. A man was discovered dead from gunshot wounds inside the vehicle, Thomason said.

The victim's identity is also not being released until his family is notified of the death, he said.
