10-Year-Old Eludes Abduction Attempt Near El Cerrito School

EL CERRITO (BCN) - Investigators were trying Wednesday to identify a man who attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl into his truck in El Cerrito on Monday, El Cerrito police said.

At  3 p.m. Monday, a man driving a black Ford pickup truck pulled up beside the girl as she walked near St. Jerome Catholic School, located at 320 San Carlos Ave., according to police.

Police said the man tried to persuade the girl to get into his truck, but the girl did not speak to him and instead walked into the school.

The girl described the suspect as a black man between 25 and 35 years old, according to police.

Police said his truck, described as "beat-up," had the word "Ford" written in silver lettering across the tailgate and a construction rack on the back with wooden side panels. It also had a bumper sticker that referenced "no driving while talking on a cell phone" and showed a picture of a woman involved in a crash.

The license plate included the number 26, police said.

Anyone with information about the attempted kidnapping is asked to call El Cerrito police Detective Cpl. Susan Garman at (510) 215-4446.
