This super-Earth, so named because it's a rocky planet eight times as massive and twice as wide as Earth, is so scorching hot that it has a molten lava ocean for a surface. The exoplanet's interior might also be full of diamonds.
"Dec. 7 brings one of those magical moments when the sky changes dramatically before your very eyes," NASA said.
"We're going to be sending people down to the surface and they're going to be living on that surface and doing science," NASA official Howard Hu said.
