No one outside the Oakland Raiders locker room thought they had a chance to win the Battle of the Bay in 2015, but that's what happened Sunday at the Coliseum. The Silver & Black beat the San Francisco 49ers, 24-13, to win their second straight home game and improve their season record to 2-11.
The 49ers have hit rock bottom. While they are still in the playoff hunt, they dealt themselves a crippling blow losing to the Oakland Raiders. The team lost this one as a unit with the offense, defense and special teams all failing to show up.
Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes and the Oakland Raiders put a major dent into San Francisco's dwindling playoff hopes with a 24-13 victory Sunday over the 49ers in the Battle of the Bay.
The only players going to miss the Raiders and 49ers game are possibly two offensive lineman. Each side has one of them, so at least in terms of injuries the two teams are even.
Compared to previous weeks, the Oakland Raiders have a little health momentum on their side heading into Sunday's home matchup with Bay Area rival San Francisco. Forget the Harbaugh intrigue for a few moments: The Silver & Black might be as healthy as they've been all years—not counting the players already on the season-ending IR, of course. Senators from both parties warned the National Football League on Thursday to get rid of a four-decade-old TV "blackout" rule or risk congressional action to restrict the league's lucrative antitrust exemption, which allows NFL teams to negotiate radio and television broadcast rights together.
A couple of weeks away and now 28-27 on the season. Let's break down my NFL Week 14 JB Locks against the spread.
The AFC is a very tight race as the season begins to round to a close and numerous teams are still fighting for a playoff spot. CBS Sports and former special teams ace Steve Tasker spoke on the match-up between the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins on "Thursday Night Football."
The Cowboys are 8-4, but if the season ended today they would not be in the playoffs. After Thursday's visit to Chicago, they go to Philadelphia, host Indianapolis, and finish at Washington.
The thought that Navorro Bowman could return to help the 49ers out this season does not appear likely. The only real impact he could have would be if the team makes the playoffs and that's a big if. When you put it all together, the best thing for Bowman and the 49ers is to call it a season and let him come back next year fully recovered.
