Woman Pleads Guilty To Fraud After Stealing Mail

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A local woman could spend decades in prison after pleading guilty to stealing mail and applying for fraudulent credit cards, according to prosecutors.

Sacramento resident Laura L. Gregory, 28, plead guilty Tuesday to two counts of bank fraud and possession of stolen mail, according to U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner.

Federal agents found more than 500 pieces of stolen mail from at least 350 victims inside her home last June during a search, and Gregory admitted to staking out mailboxes to steal postal items.

Gregory used the information to obtain credit cards in her victims' names and used them to buy an undisclosed amount of goods.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 10. Gregory could face as much as 30 years of prison for each count of bank fraud, as well as up to a $1 million in fines plus restitution costs. The actual sentence will be determined by the judge.
