Wind-Whipped Auburn Fire Sends Burning Embers Flying Throughout Neighborhood
AUBURN (CBS13) – Heavy winds and dry conditions made for some dangerous conditions as fire fighters in Auburn battled a house fire overnight and tried to keep burning embers from sparking additional fires.
Neighbors called fire fighters to a burning home on El Oro and Alta Mesa drives around 2:30 this morning.
Four people were inside the home as the fire started but were able to get out safely before fire fighters arrived.
Whipping winds made fighting the blaze difficult and forced fire fighters to actually patrol the neighborhood watching for additional fires sparked by flying embers which were seen as far as a quarter mile away.
A spark did start a roof fire on a home a few doors down but fire fighters were able to put it out before it did any major damage.
