UPDATE: Man Accused Of Attacking Deputy Booked Into Jail

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The man accused of violently attacking a Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy before the deputy shot him twice has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

Lonnie Hammett, 23, was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Tuesday afternoon on charges of resisting a peace officer, possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a violation of parole. His bail was set at $80,000.

Hammett was approached by deputies on Sunday morning in the 2700 block of Fulton Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area. He then reportedly swung at a deputy before running.

When the deputy caught him, Hammett allegedly fought back and then two plunged about 20 feet into a creek, where the scuffle continued until the deputy fired two shots at Hammett.

Hammett was hit in the leg and stomach and treated at a local hospital.

The deputy, whose name wasn't released, was also hospitalized for injuries to his face. A 14-year veteran of the department, he was put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the department's investigation.
