30. Study: Stock Market Declines May Be Deadly
Two U.C. San Diego finance professors conducted the study with 30 years worth of California hospital admission records and correlated them with the ups and downs of the stock market.
Professors Joseph Engelberg and Christopher Parsons found from 1983 to 2011 that hospital admissions increased following stock market drops, KMBZ reported. People admitted complained especially of anxiety, depression or other conditions of mental or emotional stress.

A Salt Lake City police officer has been placed on leave after refusing an assignment to work at a gay pride parade.
The officer was among about 30 officers assigned to provide traffic control and security for the annual Utah Pride Parade in Salt Lake City, said department spokeswoman Lara Jones.
"We don't tolerate bias and bigotry in the department, and assignments are assignments … To allow personal opinion to enter into whether an officer will take a post is not something that can be tolerated in a police department," Jones told KSL.

"It would override state laws and protections, and mandate that certain water interests come out ahead of others," Brown wrote in his letter. "It falsely suggests the promise of water relief when that is simply not possible given the scarcity of water supplies."
