PETALUMA (CBS13) – Three federal agents have been shot during an operation in Sonoma County Thursday morning.

The shooting happened at a home in Petaluma at McDowell Boulevard and McNeil Avenue around 4 a.m.

Three special agents with ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) were shot while executing high-risk federal warrants related to an ongoing criminal investigation, according to officials.

The agents were taken to a local hospital by medical helicopter for non-life threatening injuries.

One suspect has been taken into custody.

Staff and guests at a Best Western hotel behind the home on McDowell Boulevard near McNeil Drive were advised by authorities around 4 a.m. to stay indoors. The hotel manager, Bob Everhart, said he heard loud bangs and gun shots around that time. Authorities lifted the lockdown around 6 a.m.
