Three Arrested After Alleged Robbery Attempt Goes Awry
AUBURN, Calif. (CBS13) -- Three people were arrested on various charges after an alleged attempted robbery ended in shotgun blasts inside an Auburn motel room, authorities said.
The Placer County Sheriff's Department said 28-year-old Zane Aaron Davis and 20-year-old Ruthie Ann Barnes were arrested and charged with attempted robbery, conspiracy and assault with a firearm.
Barnes told deputies she went to the Super 8 Motel in Auburn just before midnight Sunday with her 36-year-old ex-boyfriend Andres Lopez, who gave her drugs. Barnes claimed she called Davis, her half-brother, to pick her up when she became afraid Lopez wouldn't let her leave.
Davis arrived and shot out the room's window with a shotgun, according to authorities. He entered the room and struggled with Lopez over control of the weapon, leading to three more shots being fired.
Davis and Barnes drove away from the scene and were arrested a short distance from the motel, and Lopez fled the area on foot.
Lopez was found at a Greyhound station, bleeding from a cut on his hand and pellet wounds to his legs. He was treated at a hospital and arrested for an outstanding warrant out of San Diego.
The Sheriff's Department said Barnes and Davis had set Lopez up to rob him at the motel and are being held at the Placer County Jail without bail.
