Teen Arrested After Stealing Car During Home Invasion
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A brazen daylight burglary ended with the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect who allegedly tried to make his getaway in the homeowner's vehicle, authorities said.
Ari Parnnia said he had just entered his home Saturday afternoon after checking his mail when he heard the startling sound of his SUV's engine revving to life in his garage. When he ran outside, he said he chased his vehicle and tried to wrestle control away from the young suspect.
Parnnia said he managed to get the driver's door open, but the teen put the car into reverse, backing into a wall before speeding away.
"He was going like a crazed man," Parnnia said. "We chased him to the corner, he sat at a red light with his blinker on, waiting for it to turn green with no cars coming."
Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Laura Peck said officers caught up with the suspect about a mile away and arrested him.
"A lot of burglaries that we respond to are perpetrated by teenagers," Peck said.
Because the teen allegedly went into the house and created such a dangerous situation during his getaway, police say he will likely face serious criminal charges despite his age.
