Suspect Shoots Out Windows Of Car And Garbage Truck

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A suspect has been arrested after allegedly chasing down and shooting out the windows of two vehicles, including a city garbage truck, early Tuesday morning.

The incident began around 6 a.m. at a Chevron gas station at El Camino and Northgate Boulevard.

Police say a man, later identified as 22-year-old Mykhalyo Kushnir, driving a gold Toyota Camry got into a verbal altercation with the driver of a white Dodge while pumping gas at the station. The victim and two passengers took off but were followed by the suspect, who began shooting at them.

"They left and he started shooting at them with a BB pistol, a high-powered pistol, hitting their car several times. They were involved in a collision as a result," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Lewis Pease.

Kushnir then reportedly turned his pistol on a Sacramento City garbage truck.

"Hand raised out the window, out the crack of the window. By the time I got closer and seen the gun, bullets were hitting me and my windshield was blown out," explained city sanitation worker Joshua Mayes. "I was scared."

Kushnir then returned to the gas station to continue pumping gas. That's where police caught up with him and took him into custody.

"The individual that we have under arrest is possibly mentally disordered or under the influence of a narcotic. We don't know," said Sgt. Pease.

Kushnir was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on two counts of discharging a firearm at an inhabited vehicle and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $200,000.
