Suspect At Large After Interstate Shooting
STOCKTON (CBS13) – A suspect is still at large after crashing on Interstate 5 and then shooting at deputies early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department said a deputy observed a driver steering erratically through the fog near Stockton at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, and when the deputy turned on his overhead lights to pull the subject over, the other vehicle suddenly veered into the center divide of Interstate 5.
The suspect's vehicle spun out and crossed all lanes of traffic, ending up facing the wrong way on the Mount Diablo on-ramp. The driver exited the vehicle and fled into the fog on foot.
When two pursuing deputies caught up with the man, a scuffle broke out and the suspect apparently pulled out a gun and fired it. Neither deputy was hurt.
Both deputies fired back at the suspect, but he disappeared into the fog and has not been located, according to authorities.
It is unclear if the suspect was wounded during the incident.
Detectives have identified the suspect as 41-year-old Jousha Hoyopattubbi, a parolee at large. Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department (209) 468-4400.
