Suspect Arrested In Vandalism Of Marysville Catholic Cemetery
MARYSVILLE (CBS13) - A suspect has been arrested in the vandalism of the historic Catholic Cemetery in March.
Marysville Police arrested a 17-year-old Olivehurst boy on Thursday. His name isn't been released because of his age.
Officers responding to the cemetery, which is off Highway 70 on the north outskirts of town, on March 22 and discovered 53 headstones and monuments had been vandalized, resulting in an estimated $100,000 in damages.
Officers recovered evidence at the scene but Thursday was the first arrest related to the incident. A second suspect is being pursued.
Police say the incident at the Catholic Cemetery could be related to similar vandalism at the Marysville City Cemetery across the highway. Both contain burial sites for city pioneers from the 1800s.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Marysville Police Department at (530) 749-3900.
