Sonora Man Hit Twice Crossing Street In Reno

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Police say a 71-year-old California man died after he was hit by two cars in a Reno crosswalk, and the driver of the first car was arrested on a driving under the influence charge.

Reno police say Charles Heinemann of Sonora, Calif., died at Renown Regional Medical Center after being struck crossing North Virginia Street about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the 20-year-old driver of a car exiting Interstate 80 and turning left on Virginia Street said he did not see Heinemann.

The driver, from Reno, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.

Police say a second car also making a left turn on Virginia Street also struck the man.

The driver of the second car was not charged.
