Some Companies Cited As Kings Supporters Haven't Promised Money
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Two of the companies listed by Mayor Kevin Johnson as supporters who have already pledged money to keep the Sacramento Kings in town made statements Tuesday that they have not made any promises yet.
Johnson revealed the list of 33 companies he said were on hand Tuesday to pledge nearly $10 million in new revenue to keep the NBA franchise, listing companies like Arden Fair, AT&T, Barry Katz, and others.
One of the companies listed, Blue Diamond, was not at the press conference and told CBS13 they haven't promised any cash.
"Blue Diamond is not committing any money and shouldn't be on the list," said spokesperson Susan Brauner.
A Surewest Communications spokesperson also said they haven't pledged any money yet, although they have cautiously supported Mayor Johnson's efforts pending an evaluation.
"We have not made a commitment to any actual dollar amount," said spokesperson Ron Rogers.
Mayor Johnson took responsibility for the error Tuesday evening and said he's still pleased that 31 companies have stepped up to prove to NBA officials the region can still support the franchise.
"In the midst of all this, two companies weren't able to cross the 't' and dot the 'i'," Johnson said. "We apologized to Blue Diamond. We'll get there, I think, it's just going to take a little more time."
Johnson said $1.45 million in pledges have already been deposited in an escrow account.
