Sheriff's Deputies Digging In Backyard In Search Of Missing Woman

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Police searched a Sacramento home Wednesday for clues that could help them unlock a 4-year-old missing person mystery.

Regina Garcia,33, of Sacramento has been missing since 2008, and now with no sign of her anywhere, deputies are second-guessing what might have happened.

On Wednesday deputies went to Stewart Road in Sacramento to the home Garcia shared with her boyfriend, excavating and collecting evidence.

It was believed at first Garcia may have simply run off. But now, acting on new information, deputies are back at square one searching the same place where the investigation began.

The sheriff's department brought cadaver dogs and began the grim search for evidence that could include human remains. However, they won't reveal what was collected during Wednesday's search.

"We don't know yet. They need to be analyzed," said Sgt. Jason Ramos, a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

CBS13 learned Garcia's boyfriend, Randy Macedo, the one who reported her missing four years ago, was arrested on June 7. Investigators say they found guns, an explosive device and drugs in the home.

"He wasn't really a nice person," said neighbor Curtis Glanzer.

It's clear Macedo didn't leave a good impression with his next door neighbor.

"He had a dog and, unfortunately for the dog, he didn't do much with it. It was pretty much abused and I had a couple of interactions with him about the dog, like 'hey man, can we do something about this' and his reaction was for me, pretty much to throw rocks at his dog," said Glanzer.

As he sits behind bars, Macedo has not named as a suspect in the disappearance. In fact, nobody has.

"As far as implicating anyone, it's too early to go there and put that label on anybody," said Ramos.

Deputies will be back Thursday with more equipment as the excavation for answers in the backyard continues.

It's a case that had gone cold, but now deputies could be close to solving this missing person mystery.

CBS13 put in a request for a jailhouse interview with Macedo but we were told he was unavailable, being interviewed by investigators.
