Search Still On For Suspects In State Capitol Brawl

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Police and the California Highway Patrol are searching for the suspects involved in Sunday's violent clash at the State Capitol.

More than 100 police officers were staged around the State Capitol at 8 a.m. on Sunday in anticipation of a planned protest by the Traditionalist Workers Party.

Counter protestors arrived a few hours later and began fighting with the neo-Nazi group using wooden posts and other weapons.

At least ten people from both sides were stabbed and injured, but police maintain they had full-control of the clash.

"There were no officers injures and very minimal damage to the Capitol," said CHP Officer George Granada.

Police have not made any arrests. They are now looking at surveillance video to identify the suspects involved in the stabbings.

Late Monday morning, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson released a statement about the incident:

"The incident at the Capitol yesterday was simply unacceptable and violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Sacramento. Our country, our state and our city have a long history of peaceful protests and that tradition will not be disrupted by the few who wish to cause havoc. I commend our law enforcement and fire department for their swift response and for ensuring there were no further injuries or destruction. I will be meeting with the law enforcement jurisdictions involved to discuss lessons learned and how we can avoid situations like this in the future. Over the past 8 years, we have worked diligently to bring all sides to the table on some of the most challenging issues in our city because collaboration and cooperation is always the best way to solve problems."
