Sacramento Startup Promising Hangover Remedy To Thwart Dehydration

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento startup says it's created a product to help ward off hangovers by giving you back what the alcohol takes away.

The new beverage company doesn't have a marked-out office space yet, instead using a Del Paso-area home as a home base.

Michael Baeta shook up a martini with something different inside.

"We go everywhere from a martini with Play Mode martinis, Play Mode margaritas, we do Playmosas, instead of mimosas," he said.

It's his labor of love, and hopefully his future bread and butter.

"I felt that niche, and Play Mode fills a niche, and that niche is to hydrate while you celebrate," he said.

It's a mixer if you want it to be, or a recovery beverage. Baeta says Play Mode is designed to counteract dehydration from alcohol that often leads to hangovers.

"There is no caffeine, no taurine, in Play Mode, it's a low-calorie, low-sugar drink that is all about hydration recovery," he said.

Baeta has spent two years designing everything from the electrolytes and sea salt in the formula to the flavors in Sacramento.

"We want to stay in Sacramento, we think it's a great fit, for this area," he said.

Roxie's Deli owner Amy Tonnous is selling the drink.

"We're very hopeful that it can take off. We've gotten a very good response from the customers they're enjoying it," she said.

The beverage is bottled in Capitola, but Michael says he hopes to add bottlers locally and grow globally.
