Sacramento Police K-9 Bosko Tracks Down Suspect In Truck Theft

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento Police K-9 tracked down a suspect in a truck theft and helped bring him into custody on Thursday.

CBS13's cameras were rolling when Bosko was on the scene.

John Lee is grateful to get his truck  back, and he's showing a lot of gratitude to the four-legged police hero that helped find the alleged thief.

"They got the guy who took my truck," he said.

Lee and his brother saw Orlando Cerda, 44, driving the stolen truck, so he called police.

Sacramento Police zeroed in on Lee's truck near the corner of Marin Avenue and Hoopa Court.

"One of our officers got behind the vehicle, and when he did, the vehicle stopped in front of this residence," said Sgt. Myron Wayne.

Cerda fled into the home and refused to come out. That's when Bosko was called in.

CBS13 caught up with Bosko and his handler Randy Van Dusen in training when he was working out his new bulletproof K-9 vest. Van Dusen knows about the dangers—his former partner Bodie took a bullet in 2012 and had to retire after his injury.

But today, Bosko didn't need the vest as he searched the home for the suspect and found him in the bathroom. Officers say Bosko was forced to bike Cerda because he wouldn't give up. But Bosko wasn't hurt.

Sacramento Police got their man, and Lee got his truck.

"I'm happy for the dog and happy I got my truck back," he said.

Cerda is facing charges of driving a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
