Rain Stays Away For Eighth Shamrock'n Half-Marathon

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Excitement and a sense of accomplishment filled Raley Field on Sunday as runners crossed the finish line of the eighth annual Shamrock'n Half-Marathon.

A lot of them dressed to impress.

"We whipped these up last night at about 11," participant Erin Clements said of her and a friend's colorful outfits. "We sewed some tulle on these little ribbons.

Decked out in green, 58-year-old Jan Carlson was full of energy after she crossed the finish line and didn't mind the lack of sunshine.

"It was great," she said. "A little wind but no rain, cool weather, lots of bands. Awesome!"

While some such as Carlson were all smiles, others crossed the line in tears.

"This is my first," an emotional Gay Bawanan said. "It's been a year since I started my fitness journey. I lost almost 50 pounds. It's awesome. I'm hurting, but it's awesome."

There were no rules on fitness levels or even ages for the 13-mile race, and 12-year-old Maya completed her first half-marathon on Sunday.

"It was really good," she said.

That was a feeling most everyone shared.
