Protests Planned For UC Regents Meeting

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Protesters are planning demonstrations at four University of California campuses where board members are planning to gather by teleconference after worries about violence led to the cancellation of a previous meeting.

The anti-Wall Street group ReFund California intends to protest Monday against recent crackdowns on Occupy camps on UC campuses and call on banks to pay more taxes to fund higher education.

The UC Board of Regents was originally scheduled to meet last week at the San Francisco-Mission Bay campus, but the session was scrapped when law enforcement warned that protests could turn violent.

The regents, university administrators and public can attend the Monday meeting at locations on the Los Angeles, Davis, Merced and Mission Bay campuses.
